Kenya 7s star Alvin Buffa Otieno has won Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality for the month of October award.
Buffa defeated Carl Tundo, who won the African Rally Championship during the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally (ARC). Joyce Njeru, the overall women’s World Mountain Racing Association (WMRA) World Cup champion in Italy was also a contender. Elisha Rotich, Angela Tanui and Joyceline Jepkosgei were also nominated for the award.
The forward was awarded a UHD LG 55-inch smart TV worth KSHS 105,000 and a trophy. In October Buffa helped Kenya 7s reclaim the Safari 7s scoring in the final against Germany as the side won 12-5.

He was awarded as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament following his impressive displays as Kenya 7s won five out of the six matches played in the two-day event.
“I am short of words, very happy about this award. It’s been good to me more so after recovering from injury and seeing my game improve through and through. The sky’s the limit for now and I also urge all players to keep going and aim higher in sport,” Buffa is quoted by Capital Sports.
The forward who recently moved to KCB Rugby was Kenya 7s top scorer in the 2021 World 7s Series. He has been included in the squad that is heading to Dubai for the 2022 World 7s Series opener.
