Kenya Cup side Menengai Oilers completed the signing of Kenya Simbas centre John Okoth from rivals Nakuru RFC in the transfer window that closed on Friday.

Felix Oloo, the head coach of Nakuru RFC, confirmed Okoth’s departure and wished him well. Oloo says the club signed Emman Okwako as Okoth’s replacement.

Okwako will join Wanyore’s midfield department which has the likes of Brian Kimani, David Mwangi and Victor Matiko.

“John Okoth moved to Menengai Oilers and we wish him all the best at his new home. We had to find his replacement and we brought in Emman Okwako,” Oloo told the Scrummage.

Editor’s pick:

Okoth has five Kenya Simbas caps, his first coming in the 2019 Elgon Cup match at Mamboleo Grounds on June 22. The Kenya Simbas were defeated 16-13 in Paul Odera’s maiden match as head coach of the Kenya Simbas.

The Nakuru Day alumnus has established himself as a key member of the National Team, and he is now on tour with the Simbas in South Africa. He played in the Simbas’ losses to the Carling Champions Team (85-17) and Namibia (60-24).

He will compete for the midfield slots with Austin Sikutwa, Harold Anduvate, Dennis Abukuse.

Oloo also confirmed the exit of Elvis Olukusi and Bramwell Kilwake. The two have moved to KCB Rugby and were part of the bankers’ squad at the Safari 7s Tournament.

“Olukusi and Kilwake are the other exits from the club. Kilwake moved because of school commitments,” he said.
