Kenya 7s finished third in the Edmonton 7s after a convincing 33-14 win over hosts Canada in an entertaining clash played at Commonwealth Stadium.
Alvin Otieno who has been impressive in the Series for Shujaa landed two tries as Innocent Simiyu coached side scored five tries in the victory.
After a cagey start, Shujaa captain Nelson Oyoo took matters into his own hands and sprinted to dive over at the centre for a try that Levvy Amunga converted for a 7-0 lead.
Shujaa doubled the lead after winning a line-out in Canada’s try territory. Billy Odhiambo was caught just before he crossed over and Kenya had to recycle the ball finding Alvin Otieno who fend off his marker to score from close range. Amunga converted for a 14-0 lead.
Alex Russell cut the deficit with a brilliant try for Canada for a 14-7 scoreline at halftime.
On return from the break, Canada stole possession from Harold Anduvate and went on to score through Jake Thiel to tie the scores.
From the resultant restart, Shujaa’s Willy Ambaka won the ball from the kick-off and sprinted into Canada’s zone to score the third try.
Otieno returned to the scoresheet with his second try of the match, bursting through the centre for the fourth try for Kenya.
Kenya put the game beyond the hosts with a try by Billy Odhiambo. Odhiambo was put through with a pass from a scrum and raced on to score the final try of the match. Shujaa have managed podium finishes in both Canadian tournaments having finished second last weekend.
Germany beat USA 24-19 in a match that had to be decided in sudden death to finish fifth in the Edmonton 7s.
