Kenyan International Monate Akuei returned to action over the weekend with American Premiership side Old Blue Rugby in the league’s opener as they suffered a 29-22 loss to New York Athletic Club Rugby on Saturday.
Akuei started on the open flank and scored a try in the loss. NYAC bagged a seven-pointer in the opening minutes of the clash before Old Blue pulled back with a penalty.
Old Blue’s first try came from Akuei who made a 70-metre sprint at the 10th minute to score a try that saw his side lead for the first time in the clash.
NYAC added another converted try to lead 14-8 at halftime. They extend their lead 20 minutes into the second half with a try that saw them move to 19-8.
The final minutes of the game saw NYAC land 10 more points while Old Blue had 14 points in the period to pick a point in the loss.
Old Blue are back to 15s action after completing their 7s Series campaign.
They have nine more matches lined up in this campaign with the matches scheduled to run till the November 2021.
