Tokyo Olympics Men’s 7s Pools standings after day one

After the day one matches played at Tokyo Stadium, five sides have maintained their 100% win record in the Tokyo Mens 7s Olympics.

2016 Gold winners Fiji, runners up Great Britain, Bronze winners South Africa, USA and New New Zealand had a perfect record on day one winning all the opening matches and have reached the quarters.

New Zealand are top in Pool C following wins over the Republic of Korea and Argentina. They have six points while Argentina sit second with four points after one win and a loss.

Australia bounced back to winning ways with a victory over Korea and have also picked four points but have an inferior point difference. Korea are bottom with two points.

In Pool B, its Great Britain who are top having won all their matches without conceding. Fiji have also picked six points ahead of Tuesday’s clash against Great Britain which will decide who heads to the quarters as the Pool winner.

Canada and Japan are tied on two points each and will also face off on Tuesday in a match that will decide who finishes third.

South Africa are top in Pool C with six points and have a superior points difference compared to what the second-placed USA have. USA also won their all matches and will be eyeing a top sport in the Pool when they meet SA on Tueday.

Kenya 7s sit third in the Pool after two straight defeats but will be keen to beat Ireland on Tuesday morning to keep the hope of qualifying as the best third loser. The top two teams in each pool will proceed to the quarters and will be joined by two best losers.
