KCB hammer Mwamba to stay top

Kenya Cup titleholders KCB Rugby pummeled Mwamba Rugby Club 50-3 at KCB Sports Club to take their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Curtis Olago charges ran seven tries, six conversions and a penalty which saw them move to 33 points after seven matches.

The bankers were on a rampage not taking long before they could enter the scoreboard through lock Oliver Mang’eni, Levi Amunga was good with the conversion putting the hosts seven points ahead. Charles Kuka failed to narrow down the gap after a missed penalty kick.

The Ruaraka base side continued to dominate as Rocky Aguko got past the Mwamba defense easily to get his name on the score sheet while Amunga booted in the extras.

Front-rower Patrick Ouko bullied his way past the Mwamba defense touching down to widen the lead and Amunga’s accuracy was on point as he converted for KCB to stay ahead.

Mwamba’s poor porous saw Smith Muhoya dance past the backline to hand a brilliant pass to Curtis Lilako who touched down for the fourth try, Amunga missed the conversion attempt this time around.

A dummy by Amunga gave Samuel Asati a gap that saw him dash past the whitewash for another try which saw the hosts close the first half with 33-0 after a successful conversion.


Aguko opened the second half scoring run by landing his second try of the day. Amunga gave the extras for a 40- 0 scoreline. An infringement by KCB saw the visitors enter the scoreboard through Kuka’s penalty.

George Gichure scored a converted try to push the scores to 47-3 which would hit the half a century mark shortly after a penalty kick by Darwin Mukidza. The final whistle blew with KCB taking home the bragging rights and maximum points.
