All Blacks 7s star ruled out for Tokyo Olympics

All Blacks Sevens star Sam Dickson has been ruled out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics following a hamstring injury picked in training.

According to to All Blacks, the 2016 Olympian picked the hamstring injury while training at Townsville. His place has been taken up by Amanaki Nicole who has been called up to the squad ahead of the Olympics.

“We are absolutely gutted for Sam. Wishing him a speedy recovery.” reads a statement by All Blacks.

“Meanwhile, changes to the alternate replacement rule by the IOC see William Warbrick and Tenika Willison being available to start in Rugby Seven’s games,” the statement further reads

“The amendment to the rules sees Sevens’ teams able to pick from the 12 selected players and the alternative reserve in the starting 12 for each match in the tournament, whereas previously the travelling reserves were only able to be used as a permanent injury replacement,” the statement concludes.
