Algeria stun Uganda Cranes in final Rugby Africa pool C clash

Algeria defeated Uganda Cranes 22-16 in Rugby Africa Cup match played on Sunday at Kyadondo.

Algeria who were seeking to pick maximum points to liven their quarterfinal chances took lead via a penalty at the fourth minute. 12 minutes later, Djamel crossed over for a converted try that took the scores to 10-0.

Brian Odongo pulled back with a try that Aaron Ofoywroth failed to convert. The gap reduced to two with Ivan Magomu splitting the posts after a penalty.

Uganda went on to lead for the first time in the match when Ivan Magomu picked up full back Adrian Kasito with a pass for their opening try.

Algeria headed to the break with a narrow advantage following a try off a maul at the 38th minute.

In the second half, Nabil and Asuman Mugerwa were yellow carded at the 44th and 48th minute with both sides being reduced to 14.

Algeria struck again with another maul gifting them the second try. Taking their lead to 22-13 after a conversion. Uganda replied with two penalties but only one was on target.

The Algerians were able to hold on to win the match.
