Kenya Simbas trounce Zambia to qualify for 2022 RAC quarters

Jone Kubu once again starred as Kenya Simbas trounced Zambia 45-8 in the final Pool B match played at Nyayo Stadium to qualify for the 2022 Rugby Africa Cup quarters.

The Simbas have finished second in the Pool with six points and will face the winner of Pool C which has Uganda, Ghana and Algeria.

Kubu managed two tries, two conversions, a drop goal and a penalty totalling 18 points while George Nyambua bagged a brace in the win.

Kenya Simbas had a dominant first display scoring four tries and added two in the closing half. Zambia only had a try and a penalty.

Seeking to rise from a disappointing 20-19 loss to Senegal, Kenya Simbas had made six changes and positional switches ahead of the clash.

Kenya Simbas scored inside the opening five minutes after a rolling maul which saw George Nyambua touch down the opening try. Kubu belted in a conversion for Kenya to lead 7-0.

Kubu added a three-pointer towards the 17th minute for a 10-0 lead. The Simbas second try came at the 20th minute with the ball moving from Kubu to Samuel Asati who released Brian Tanga to score the second try at the left corner. Kubu missed his conversion attempt.

Laston Mukosa pulled back with a long-range penalty kick for Zambia. Joshua Chisanga’s tackle on Jubilee Chisanga saw the latter sent off for 10 minutes after a yellow card.

The despite being a man down, the Simbas continue to stretch the lead. Eugene Sifuna picked up Kubu with a pass and the Kabras man sliced through the Zambian defence to touch down the third try. Dominic Coulson easily slotted in the conversion for a 22-3 lead.

Kubu added a drop goal before returning to the scoresheet with the fourth try after selling a dummy. It was after Sam Onsomu fed him with a pass from a ruck. Coulson conversion was on point taking the scores to 33-3 at halftime.

A rolling maul at the start of the second half earned the Simbas the fifth try but Coulson’s conversion attempt was off the target.

Zambia registered the first try after 50 minutes of play. Israel Kalumba forced his way to the try line to score but Fine Chinkumbe couldn’t add the extras.

Minutes later Nyambua crossed over for his second try after another maul in the Zambian five, changing the scores to 42-8.

Zambia were reduced to 14 with Chinkumbe being sent off for a yellow card. The Simbas added three more points through Coulson to win the match.
