Mwamba leave Nakuru’s Suguta Valley with a win

Mwamba registered their first win of the season, beating Nakuru RFC 23-15 in a 3:00PM kick clash at Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday.

Kulabu travelled to Suguta Valley having lost their opening two matches and were keen to end the bad run. Charles Kuka gave the side the first points from the tee after a penalty at the 17th minute and Kevin Wambua’s charges took a 3-0 lead.

Nakuru’s Teddy Agutu was then yellow carded at the 25th minute and Kuka once again kicked in three more points for a 6-0 lead. Nakuru cut the gap to a point with centre Brian Kimani touching down to give his side hope in the match.

In the final half, Mwamba lost Jonah Mbari for 10 minutes following a yellow card as Nakuru were awarded a penalty try to lead 12-6. Mwamba regained the lead at 52nd minute as Steve Sikuta who has been included in Kenya Simbas 42- man crossed the white chalk for a 13-12 lead after Kuka’s conversion.

Flanker Humphrey Warui also got on the scoresheet with a try that Kuka converted and Mwamba were 20-12 up. Nakuru’s Fredrick Odongo trimmed the gap to five points with a penalty but Kuka’s penalty in the final minute of the game ensured Nakuru missed the losing bonus point.
