Kenya 7s Head Coach Innocent Simiyu says his charges are looking sharp in training as preparations for Tokyo Olympics continue.
Shujaa have been in a pre-Olympics training camp at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani for the last two weeks. The coach is impressed with how his charges are responding to the tactics and plans around kick-offs and breakdowns.
“The camp is good. All the boys are looking sharp ticking the right boxes,” Simiyu told KRU official portal.
“We are happy with how the boys have responded to the plans around kickoff, breakdowns, and game tactics. Our focus now shifts to them being able to perform in the next tournament,” he added.
The coach also revealed that Jacob Ojee who picked up an ankle injury in the Rugby Africa Solidarity Camp in South Africa is working with the physiotherapist to get back to action soon.
“When it comes to injuries, we only have one player injured, Jacob Ojee but he has been going for his physiotherapy sessions to ensure he makes a full recovery.”
The team has been working with Kenya Rugby Referees Association match officials during the camp and the coach admits the availability of a referee has been important in their sessions.
“It has helped a lot especially with the training games and boardroom sessions we conduct. We wish to give a big thanks to Linus for coming through for the team,” he concluded.
Shujaa have had trips to Madrid, Dubai, Stellenbosch and they gearing for the final tournament slated for Los Angeles.
