Kenya Under 20 side edged Mwamba 12-10 in a Barthes Cup warm-up encounter staged at KCB Sports Club on Saturday evening.
Both sides scored two tries each but a conversion from Chipu made the difference. Kenya Under 20 opened the scores through scrum-half Amos Mukoro. Mwamba responded with an unconverted try to tie the scores.
Flanker Collins Indeche scored after several pick and drives in Mwamba’s five and Amon Wamalwa’s conversion saw Curtis Olago charges take 12-5 lead.
Mwamba trimmed the gap landing the second try but could not deny Chipu a win as their conversion attempt fell short.
Kenya Under 20 are preparing for the Rugby Africa Barthes Cup where they are the defending Champions. The side has played against KCB winning 13-10 and lost 26-13 to Menengai Oilers in another friendly.
The Barthes U20 Trophy is expected to kick off on 24 June to 3 July.
According to Kenya Rugby Union, the competition will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The tournament organized by Rugby Africa, returns after failing to take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the whole world. The 2019 edition saw Kenya beat Namibia 21-18 to qualify for the World Junior Trophy.
Barthes Cup is held on an annual basis and the winners of the competition earn the right to represent the African continent at the World Rugby Junior Trophy.
