Zimbabwe Sables rose from a slow first half to whip Zambia 56-3 at Harare sports Club to complete a double in the ‘Battle of Zambezi‘ clash played on Saturday.
Brendan Dawson coached side managed 10 points in the first half and added 46 points in the closing half. In the first leg encounter played in the midweek, the Sables won 31-8.
To earn the first half points, Martin Mangongo and Shinzi Katsvere landed two tries but skipper Hilton Mudariki was unable to convert either of the tries.
The side came from the break rejuvenated and Katsvere registered three successive tries to stretch the lead.
Brendon Mandivenga, Brandon Mudzekenyedzi, Biselele Tshamala, substitute Dudlee White Sharpley and Mudariki also joined the scoresheet with tries.
In earlier matches, the Zimbabwe Under-20 side proved too strong for Zambia Youth Select thumping them 65-12 while the Women fell 17- 38 to the visitors.
The Sables are expected to play Namibian Welwitschias in a home-and-away tie in the coming days.
They are also keen to play against Blue Bulls Select in July as they wind up the preparations for the Africa Cup which also serves as the 2023 World Cup qualifiers.
