Former Championship side Kitale RFC are mourning the death of scrumhalf Allan Matata, which occured on Saturday 29, in Kisumu.
Matata, who was a student at Maseno University, is said to have died along Kisumu Highway, when he lost control of a motorbike he was driving, before being hit by a vehicle.
Confirming the incident, Kitale RFC patron/coach Ben Amboko said Matata was a key member of the club since joining them in 2015.
“We have indeed lost one of our member, Allan Matata, to a tragic accident that occured on Saturday morning. Until his passing on, Matata had been a key member of our squad for close to six years, since joining us in 2015,” he said.
“He once successfully captained one of our local rugby sides Ndalu RFC to win the Webuye 10s Tournament three times in a row. He lead Ndalu Rfc to win our last local (inter estate / mtaa tournament) in December 2019.He was a student at Maseno University Kisumu Campus,” he added.
Kitale RFC captain Alloice Oduko echoed the sentiments, describing Matata as a brother, since they played in the same position.
“We have played together with Matata in many championship games. We were close since we featured in the same position. It is sad to hear of his death,” he said.
We at The Scrummage wishes to send our message of condelence to the entire Kitale RFC fraternity, and the family, friends and relatives of Allan Matata.
