South Africa dominance over Kenya 7s continued as picked 31-5 win in the Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s final match played in Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon.
Shujaa were eyeing to beat SA for the first time in the competition after three back to back defeats to Neil Powell coached side. However, as it has been in the previous three games, Kenya spent the better part of the game on a backfoot.
Sako Makata was set up via a cross-kick which saw him break and score the opening try. The side doubled the lead moments after winning a penalty in Kenya’s five and Justin Geduld grubber kick was grounded by Selvyn Davids for a 12-0 lead. Shujaa would have pulled back just before halftime but Collins Injera knocked on Billy Odhiambo’s pass.
In the final half, South Africa produced a fantastic move which was completed with Selvyn setting up Angelo Davids on the left wing for another try.
Davids once again set up Angelo on the left side with a cross kick which saw score to stretch the lead to 24-0.
Shujaa pulled back through Alvin Otieno’s try but Muller du Preez sealed their win with a try that Branco converted a 31-5.
Kenya 7s will now return home for the preparations ahead of the final tournament, Quest for Gold 7s set for June 25-26 in Los Angeles. USA, Argentina, Samoa and Korea are teams that are confirmed for the competition.
Uganda registered first win the competition beating Zimbabwe 36-7. They two will now focus of the Olympic 7s Repechage preparations.
