Kenya 7s started off the Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s campaign on a good note, beating Zimbabwe 28-12 in a match played on Friday Morning in South Africa.
Shujaa landed three converted tries in first seven minutes of the game. They touched down once in the final half as Zimbabwe scored twice.
Kenya’s landed the first converted try after three minutes of play through Alvin Buffa Otieno. Innocent Simiyu charges then doubled the lead after they bullied Zim in a ruck to leave the ball open, it was Alvin Otieno who picked the ball and raced to score the second try that was converted for a 14-0 lead.
Kenya continued to look comfortable in the half as they retained possession after the restart and the ball was shifted to the right to find Billy Odhiambo who drew in his markers and offloaded to unmarked Nelson Oyoo on the outside. The winger sprinted to score the third try which gave Kenya a 21-0 at half time.
The side added the fourth try moments into the second half as Jacob Ojee picked a loose ball off Zim’s ruck and put Otieno through for another try that was converted for a 28-0.
Zimbabwe would put up a brilliant attack two minutes to the final whistle and it paid off as Nelson Madiba scored a try.
Zimbabwe final try came in the dying minutes of the game as Ofonzwo crossed over to ensure the side got 12 points from the clash.
