Kenya 7s beat SA 2 to return to winning ways at Solidarity 7s

Kenya 7s bounced back to winning ways with a 19-12 win over South Africa 2 in the third match of the Rugby Africa Solidarity 7s Camp played on Saturday afternoon.

Three tries were enough to hand Shujaa a win over SA 2 which had the likes Impi Visser (captain), Khanya Ncusane, Tiaan Pretorius, Ryan Oosthuizen, James Murphy, Mervano da Silva, Ronald Brown, Qamani Kota, Justin Geduld, Latica Nela, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Sibiya Pule and Connor Mahoney.

Kenya enjoyed posses in the opening minutes of the clash and after several phases, there was an overload on the left side and Billy Odhiambo released Nelson Oyoo who acceleratedto the try-box to ground the ball for the opening try. The try was converted for a 7-0 lead.

Moments later, SA pinned Kenya in its own five and landed an easy try. The try was after Justin Geduld intercepted a pass from Daniel Taabu and strolled to the try-box to score. The two teams headed to the break tied at 7-7.

Four minutes into the closing half, SA landed an unconverted try off the scrum to lead for the first time in the match. The try served as a wake-up call for Shujaa who put up a good display to score two quick tries through Oilers duo Derrick Keyoga and Harold Anduvate.

To level the scores, Odhiambo once again swang a long pass to Keyoga who was unmarked on the right-wing and the latter raced to score. Taabu then converted for a 14-12 lead.

The third try saw Vincent Onyala beat several markers and unleashed a short pass to Anduvate to cut in and sprinted to score under the posts. Taabu was unable to convert the try.

Kenya will be back in action on Sunday to face SA Academy.
