Two wins for Kenya at Rugby Africa Solidarity camp day one

Kenya Lionesses registered two wins in four matches played on the first day of the Rugby Africa 7s Solidarity Camp at the Maison du Rugby.

Kenya lost the first match to Madagascar 14-12. Lionesses were quick off the blocks and from the right side Janet Okello sold a dummy before racing to land a converted try for a 7-0 lead.

Madagascar responded with a converted try to tie the scores at 7-7 heading to the break. On return from the break, Madagascar scored a converted try to lead 14-7.

Kenya would pull back following Sheila Chajira’s late try which they opted not to convert. Madagascar then stood tall to stop Kenya from breaching their defence for the winning try.

Lionesses then bounced back to winning ways beating Madagascar 19-0 in the second match. Kenya’s first try came towards the end of the first half with Chajira and returning Grace Adhiambo combining for the latter to score the first try of the match under the post. She, however, failed to add the extras.

Chajira then beat her markers to dot the second try under the posts and it was converted for a 12-0 lead.

Kenya stole the ball from a scrum and the ball was channelled to the left side where Janet Okello’s produced a darting run to beat the defence line and scored a try that stretched Lionesses lead. Lionesses won the match and did not concede despite Okello being sent off.

It was after Janet Okello produced a clean pair of heels to score. The conversion attempt went in leaving Kenya with a 7-0 lead heading to the break.

Kenya added a seven pointer in the closing minutes of the clash through Stella Nafula to pick the second win. The tournament will continue on Sunday 2 May at the Maison du Rugby.
