102 Players called in Kenya Simbas provisional squad for 2021 preps

Kenya Simbas head coach Paul Odera has named a total of 102 players to his 2021 provisional squad ahead of the International season preparations.

The teams will start off with virtual sessions and according to Kenya Rugby Union the squad will be then trimmed to 50 players after several tests. 20 more players will be dropped to reach the final list of 30 players who will compete in this year’s Rugby Africa Cup.

The final squad of 30 players will enter the Stellenbosch camp in June, in readiness for the Rugby Africa Cup Senegal and Zambia ties set for July.

Kenya Simbas management have reportedly identified training camps that will be either virtual or face-to-face, in dependance to government directive on sporting activities.

Simbas head coach Paul Odera said footage and data from current Kenya Cup season helped in selection of players

“The squad includes those named in 2020 as well as additional players selected using footage and data from current Kenya Cup season which was suspended on 26th March and International matches for overseas-based players. Chairman of selectors Kirori Mindo, fellow selectors Victor Sudi and Mitch Ocholla looked at six protocols on attack and defense,” he said.

Kabras Fijian utility back Jone Kubu has earned his first call up to the National team. Eugene Sifuna, Bryceson Agesa Kevin Wesonga, and Derrick Ashihundu have also made the cut. Bob Muhati, Bretty Kamadi, Brian Oyando, Leroy Mbugua, Steve Osumba, Anderson Oduor have also received call-ups.
