Kenya 7s finished third at the first round of the Emirates Invitational 7s following a 31-14 win over Japan in the third place-playoffs played at the Sevens Stadium.
The Shujaa side scored five tries in the with Vincent Onyala and Alvin Buffa Otieno touching down twice
Kenya took the lead through Otieno who fend off his marker and went on to score the first try. Daniel Taabu added the extras for a 7-0 scoreline.
Japan would respond with a try under the posts and their conversion was successful tying the scores at 7-7.
Kenya regained the lead moments later and this time round it was Otieno who turned to be the provider as his offload set up Onyala to score the second try that took the scores to 14-7 after Johnstone Olindi split the posts with his conversion attempt.
Shujaa would add the third try through Bush Mwale who crossed over after a well-worked team play. Taabu added the twos for Kenya to widen the gap by 14 points.

Innocent Simyu’s charges added the fourth try through Onyala, marking his second of the match but the conversion attempt was off the target
Japan then pulled back scoring a converted try that saw the scoreboard read 26-14.
Otieno would also end the match with two tries after crossing the whitewash for his second try and the final try of the match. Kenya will back in action next Thursday for the final round of the tournament.
Uganda’s first win of the competition came during the seventh-place playoffs where they beat Spain 24-19 to finish seventh.
Nobert Okeny gave Uganda the opening try while Solomon Okia added the second try which was converted by Aaron Ofoywroth for a 12-7 lead at halftime. Adrian Kasito and Okia would add more tries in the second half that saw Uganda defeat Spain
