Nine-try Kabras blitz newbies MMUST in Kakamega Derby

Kabras kicked off the Kenya Cup campaign with a convincing 56-0 win over newbies MMUST in a Kakamega Derby played at Kakamega showground.

The Sugarmen scored six tries in the first half and three in the closing half while MMUST managed no try.

The hosts got the first try two minutes into the game, it was after a few phases which saw Timoci Senaite feed supporting Ntabeni Dukisa off a tackle and the South African quickly passed to unmarked Alfred Orege on the left wing who scored at the corner flag. Dukisa’s conversion was on point and Kabras went up 7-0.

Dukisa extended the lead eight minutes later with a penalty after MMUST were penalized off the scrum.

At the 15th minute MMUST Jadah Abdon was yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle on Brian Tanga and Kabras called for a scrum which saw them drive into MMUST area and Jeanson Musoga dotted off the scrum for a 15-0 lead after Dukisa missed a conversion.

The sugarmen were at it again, attacking the left side and Walter Okoth crossed over for the third try that Dukisa converted.

Kabras hit the bonus point try with Dan Sikuta scoring at the right side after their first successful attack on the right.

MMUST looked bright after their numbers were restored 15 but their promising attack was cut short by Claus Shirievo’s knock on.

They were once again forced to stay backfoot in the closing minutes and their opponents’ pressure brought up the fifth try which saw Sikuta combine with Felix Ayange to score. Dukisa’s conversion bounced off the posts and went in.

Kabras would complete the first half leading 39-0 after Brian Juma crossed over for another try.

In the final half, MMUST came back looking better defensively but after minutes of keeping Kabras at bay, they conceded a penalty with Kabras choosing to go for a scrum.

From the scrum, Brian Tanga spotted the gap on the right and quickly raced to score. Dukisa was unable to hit the target from the conversion.

Kabras would again wait longer to get back on the scoresheet and new signings Derrick Ashiundu scored his first Kenya Cup try in Kabras shirt at the right side for a 51-0 after conversion.

They would move to 56 points after Kevin Wekesa scored and Valerian Tendwa missed a conversion. The side knocked on in the closing minute in what would have been the 10th try.
