Kenya Lionesses suffer seventh consecutive loss at Madrid 7s

There was no reprieve for the Kenya women’s Sevens team as they lost 17-5 to Russia in their opening match of the second leg of Madrid 7s on Saturday.

The defeat was a seventh loss in succession for the Kenya Lionesses, who will be hoping to end their losing streak when they face Poland at 5:12 pm today.

It was a much improved showing from Felix Oloo’s charges, who  held their own in the opening five minutes against a side that beat them 41-0 last weekend.

However, Kenya’s resolute defense was breached by Elena Zdrokova on the stroke of halftime. The ensuing conversion attempt was successful as Russia took a 7-0 lead before Janet Okello reduced the deficit for Kenya with an unconverted try.

Russia then piled pressure on the Lionesses back line and their efforts paid off as they managed to score two more unconverted tries.
