The 2021 Rugby Africa Under 20 Barthes Trophy is scheduled to kick off in March, according to dates released by organizers Rugby Africa.
The competition will kick off on 25 March and end on 4 April 2021. Should the competition fail to kick off on the planned dates due to the pandemic, June has been set out as the fall-back period.
The tournament will be held in Nairobi with Kenya having won the rights to host the next three editions till 2022. The 2020 edition could not go on as planned following the outbreak of Coronavirus which saw Rugby Africa cancel all the scheduled events.
Holders Kenya Under 20 will battle with the likes on Namibia, Senegal, Madagascar. Winners of the competition will represent Africa in the Junior World Trophy Tournament which is slated for September 2021.

“The first highlight on Rugby Africa’s calendar is the U20 Barthés Trophy 2021, which kicks off in Nairobi from 25 March – 4 April 2021. Hosted by the Kenya Rugby Union, all eyes are on the top four ranked teams (Kenya, Namibia, Senegal, and Madagascar),” reads a statement by Rugby Africa.
“The winner qualifies for the Junior World Trophy tournament organised by World Rugby, set for September. Fall back dates for this Round-robin single tournament are set to June.”
Kenya Under 20 will be hoping to defend the trophy they won in 2019 after beating Namibia 21-18 at KCB Sports Club.
