SX10 will tackle Phoenix in the second semi-final of the World 10s Series at 9:00 PM EAT after beating Asia Pacific Dragons in the last quarterfinal clash played at Bermuda National Stadium on Saturday.
All the five Kenya 7s stars Collins Injera, Willy Ambaka, Andrew Amonde, Oscar Ouma and Oscar Dennis featured. Craig Hunt fed Cecil Afrika who sold a dummy and scored near the posts for a 7-0 lead after his conversion. It was after a donkey work by Harry McNulty.
The side would stretch the lead with the second try from Collins Injera who was put through by JP Du Plessis. In the final half, Afrika powered past the try-line beating three opponents to score his second try of the day and the three tries were enough to hand them a place in the semis.
Their opponents Phoenix shocked second-placed Rhinos with a narrow 9-7 defeat in the second quarter. Phoenix had struggled in the last two rounds but had a good half against Rhinos and scored through Denis Coulson to lead 7-0 at halftime.
Rhinos responded in the dying minutes and converted for a 7-7 draw. Phoenix would shock Rhinos after Braam van Straaten slotted in a penalty goal for two extra points that won them the match.
London Royals will tackle Ohio Aviators in the first semi-final of the competition slated for 8:30 PM EAT. Aviators qualified for the semis following a 26-5 win over Miami Sun in the first playoffs. London Royal, on the other hand, had booked a direct ticket to the semis after winning the World Tens Series League phase.
Aviators took a 7-0 lead following Dylan Fawsitt’s converted try. Another converted try in the dying minutes of the opening half saw the side lead 14-0 at halftime.
Aviators landed two more tries in the closing half and converted one to reach the last four.
