Amb Amina, Paul Murunga and Kenyans mourn Allan Makaka


Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed and Kakamega County senator Cleophas Malala joined a number of Kenyans in eulogizing departed Former Kenya 7s star Allan Makaka.

Makaka died on the spot after his car rammed into a stationary lorry on Mombasa Road near the Nairobi Southern Bypass interchange.

Malala who went to primary and University with the late Makaka stated that the winger was a close friend who offered invaluably advises as he ventured into politics.

“It is with profound sadness of heart that I have learnt the untimely demise of a friend and a brother ALLAN MAKAKA. Our friendship spans from the days when we were both pupils at St. Peter’s Mumias Boys Primary and later at UNITED STATES INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY,” reads a statement on his twitter account.

“Our mutual love for Rugby cemented our closeness even as he ventured into professional Rugby. Allan has stood with me on my political journey, offering invaluable pieces of advice. He would temporarily suspend his duties whenever I visited Royal Media Services where he worked just to come to support me. He kept in touch more like a brother. Shine on your way brother.” the statement further read.

Amb. Amina on her part described the winger as a great ambassador who flew the Kenyan flag across the globe.

“It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Allan Makaka, a former Kenya Sevens International who represented the country in more than 50 international matches. On behalf of the Ministry of Sports, I wish to convey a message of condolence to the family, friends, colleagues and the entire rugby fraternity. May God give you strength at this very difficult time. Kenya has lost a great brand ambassador who flew our flag across the globe for many years. May Allan’s soul rest in peace, reads a statement by the Amb. Amina.

Former Kenya 7s and Homeboyz coach Paul Murunga said:  RIP Malala Sibwor One of the best Kenyan winger. Played Rugby together from High school to Kenya U21 to Ulinzi RFC. A friend and a brother. Those who know him He was such a happy person. Its soo painful maze.

Journalists Jacob Mogoa, Willy M Tuva and Charles Nyende, ODM communications director Philip Etale, and former Kakamega County senator Boni Khalwale also joined Kenyans in sending Condolences to the family.

Charles Nyende: There are no official records, but I would put Allan Makaka up there as one of Kenya’s fastest rugby player, ever. And such a jovial, easy guy. Sad to learn of his death. RIP speedster.

Jacob Mogoa: Allan Makaka, I used to call u bingwa wa masumbwi yet u were in Rugby. We know death is for all, we just don’t know the hour, but yako kaka is just painful .very painful. We became friends after my first interview with u in my first rugby tournament on my first assignment. U used to call me and we could have exchanges about life. When I was down u sent people to come and check on me. U even organise for me to have my first car which I paid at River Road. Thank u, my brother. ……God has taken a good friend.

Boni Khalwalwe: My nephew, Allan Makaka of Royal Media, crashed to death last night. At the mortuary condoling with his father Mzee Makaka, sister Maureen, friends & colleagues. His family, the Bamahalia of Mukhonje village Shinyalu & Judith Munzala, are all my thoughts & prayers. RIP dear son.
