Butula win Busia County School 7s

Butula High School have retained the Busia County KSSSA Rugby 7s title after beating Sigalame 15-0 in the finals staged at St. Mary’s Mundika on Friday 13 March.

This was a repeat of last year’s final which Butula won 21-0. In the Friday’s final, Butula ran three unconverted tries to book a top slot heading to the Western Region games. Ramadhan, Gregory and Morgan tries were enough for victory. Butula’s winning streak in the competition saw them win all their pool stage matches scoring over 70 points and kept a clean sheet in the phase.

In the knockout phase,  they beat Alupe 32-0 in the quarters and proceeded to whip Makunda 41-0 in the semis. Sigalame, on the other hand, started off strongly winning against St Paul and Kolanya in the group pahse.

In the quarters, they beat Madende 24-0 and knocked out Burumba following a narrow 17-12 win. Makunda edged Burumba 7-5 to finish third.

Butula and Mundika are through to the Western Regional games which are set for Busia County. They join the likes of Vihiga, Chavakali, Koyonzo, Mukumu, Bungoma and Kibabii who have already qualified for the 7s games.

The Regional matches which are scheduled for 17 March are uncertain after the government gave a directive to put on hold inter-school games and other sporting activities.
