Kenya 7s started off the Vancouver 7s campaign on a losing note, going down to New Zealand 29-0 in a Pool C match played at BC Place on Saturday.
Shujaa came to this tournament having not performed well in Sydney 7s and Los Angeles. They were seeking to rise but had a tough test as they were up against the World 7s Series leaders who had beaten them 19-5 in Hamilton early in February.

After three minutes of play, New Zealand managed to break Kenya’s defence with Joe Ravouvou rounding Oscar Ouma to score the opening try which Vilimoni Koroi converted.
Minutes later, Kenya were punished for playing in their own territory as New Zealand counter ruck saw Vilimoni Koroi pick the ball and score the second try. The third try was after quick hands by New Zealand and Tone Ng Shiu completed the move for a 17-0 lead at halftime.
Koroi scored at the ninth minute before Caleb Clarke evaded Billy Odhiambo’s tackle on the left-wing and fend off Alvin Otieno for a 29-0 win. Kenya will tackle Ireland in the second match on Sunday 12:43 AM.
