Clubs to observe minute of silence in honour of departed pupils & Moi

A moment of silence will be observed on 8 February across all Kenya Rugby Union competitions, in honour of the departed Kakamega Primary pupils and retired President Daniel Arap Moi.

Over 16 matches are expected to go on this weekend with top tier and several second-tier clubs’ set to face off in the Enterprise Cup. 16 more teams will be battling for a place in the Mwamba Cup quarters while pending fixtures will also be played this weekend. A moment of silence will be observed before kick-off, Kenya Cup has announced.

“There will be a minute of silence before kick-off for all matches scheduled for tomorrow in honour of the children who passed away in the Kakamega Primary School tragedy as well as the late retired President of Kenya Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who passed away earlier this week,” reads a statement by Kenya Cup.

14 pupils (nine girls and five boys) lost their lives on Monday 3 February following a stampede at the school-based in Kakamega Town. The incident which occurred minutes after the 5 PM bell also left several pupils injured.

Early on Tuesday, the country was thrown into morning state following the demise of retired president Moi. Moi passed on at Nairobi Hospital where he had been hospitalized for over than three months.
