Nakuru hand Mwamba second straight loss in 2020

Nakuru had to wait till the last second of the game to confirm an 13-18 victory over Mwamba at the Railways club.

Both teams scored two tries, the number of converted penalties proving to be the difference in the hotly contested duel.

This means two losses for Mwamba this year while Nakuru pick their first of the year after falling to Kabras in their own backyard.

Mwamba blew away a chance to go ahead in the first minute after Michael Agevi released Ronnie Omondi only for the sleek running back to knock on the ball in his attempt to score.

Nakuru then put the first points on the board through a Collins Onyango penalty qq Mwamba pulled level through flyhalf Elvis Namusasi.

Onyango extended the visitors’ lead from the boot as Omondi blew yet another chance to score after he failed to secure a Namusasi long pass.

Kenya sevens international Oscar Ouma who had been largely quite in what was becoming an exciting duel then ran a beautiful support line for Jenkins Kipruto to release him for the first try under the posts, Onyango sure with the boot to take the scores to 3-13 in favour of the visitors.

Wanyore hit just before the half time whistle, starting with a well worked move in the midfield for John Okoth to run a massive forty or so meters before offloading off the deck for an advancing Emmanuel Mboya to dot down Nakuru’s second.

The second stanza started rather slowly before opening up for the home team to score two tries off the back of the maul. Edwin Machanje was the beneficiary of both tries with Kulabu lecturing Wanyore on how to scrum. Namusasi missed both conversions, one hitting the uprights to take the scores to 13-18.
