Blak Blad whip Western Bulls to keep survival hopes alive

Blak Blad beat Western Bulls 44-0 to secure a second win of the season in a Kenya Cup match staged at Kenyatta University Grounds.

With both teams eager to secure victory, the hosts were first to show their agility drawing first blood from a try by Arcadius Khwesa which came from a scrum in Bulls 22. Minutes later Khwesa entered the score again from a grubber he kicked from their 22. The conversions were however faulty denying them the extras.

Dennis Opiyo made a run on the left-wing and scored to extend the lead for the students. The guests seeing pressure from Blad solidified their defence and at some point got a penalty which they opted for points. It, however, went wide. The first half concluded without an answer from the visiting side.

The second half began with a try from scrumhalf Brian Wahinya in a pick and roll in Echulusi’s 22. Minutes later Arcadius Khwesa sliced past Bulls defence handing Blad a bonus point. The students continued to humiliate the guests turning over rucks and winning scrums.

With nine minutes left Bulls tried to get a try which was cut short by a knock on from their side. With one man short the Kakamega sides attempts were made harder when Kevin Gathu made a dash on the left wing to score whose conversion went wide, the match would end without a point for Western Bulls whose efforts bore no fruit.
