KCB captain insists Blad clash was tough despite resounding win

KCB captain Curtis Lilako holds that their 81-10 routing of Blak Blad on 11 Saturday at KCB Sports Club was not an easy task.

The defending champions were on a rampant in the one-sided affair, condemning Blak Blad to their ninth loss of the season, but Lilako has pointed out they had to put their feet on the ground for the win.

“Blak Blad has never been an easy team, maybe the scoreboard shows it was easy but on the ground, we really had to put our feet firm on the ground for the win. It was not an easy game for us, for they wouldn’t have gotten any point, or, we could have had a bigger score,” Lilako told Scrummage.

Lilako, in line for his fourth consecutive Kenya Cup title, outlined a few errors from his side which led to Blak Blad creating chances and thus forced them to tighten their defence.

“We had few errors where we gave them chances and we had to work hard on our defence. This translates to how tough the game was, for if it was an easy game, we wouldn’t have had instances of us defending like we did in some moments of the game,” he said.

KCB currently trail table toppers Kabras by a single point in a closely contested top of the table duel, having managed 44 points from ten outings. They face bottom of the table Kisumu RFC, next, on Saturday 18.
