Former championship side Kitale RFC halfback Aloice Oduko has backed his team to improve on their slow start in their nationwide campaign, as rugby action returns after a scheduled Christmas break on 11 Saturday 2020.
While speaking to The Scrummage, Oduko outlined financial constraints are largely to blame for their performance, but insists their morale remains unshaken in their quest for a KRU Championship return.
“Our performance before Christmas has not been up to par. Our main objectives and expectations were not met because there has been a lot of ups and downs in terms of finances, but we are still ready for the task,” he told scrummage.
The scrumhalf who pointed out key areas of improvement explained a return to Championship remains their main objective, and the Trans Nzoia based side is aware of the tough task ahead.
“The season is now in the corner as we approach the playoffs and our main aim remains going back to the championship. The key areas we have been working to improve on is strengthening the squad depth and ensuring we work as a unit. We are also working on our set-pieces. There are also a few signings we have made to bolster the team,” he said.
Kitale currently sits third in the Rift Valley Nationwide region table with 17 points, four points adrift toppers Kabarak University, but with a game in hand.
