Blak Blad coach Williams Motto feels they lost winnable matches in the opening round of the 2019/20 Kenya Cup season.
The Kenyatta University side has had a difficult start winning just one match in the first nine games. In their home matches, they went toe to with teams such as Kenya Harlequins, Nondies, Mwamba, Oilers and even Homeboyz but eventually lost after 80 minutes.
These are some of the matches that Motto feels were winnable. He says their major undoing has been in decision making especially during times. He also admits that their forwards struggled and it was hard to control matches whenever they struggled.
“We have lost most of the winnable matches. One area that has been a problem is the decision making part. Our decision making in crucial moments cost us. The other thing has been our forwards have struggled especially in set pieces and you know 15s is more of a forward game,” Motto told Scrummage.
Despite the struggles, the coach holds that his players’ gave their all in the nine matches. He is happy that the players sacrificed to travel back to Nairobi to honour the match against Quins which came days after they had left for Christmas holidays. They picked a point, losing 21-17.
“I must commend the boys they have done a good job though. I am impressed because of the performance in the clash against Kenya Harlequins. Most of our players had left for home and we had to recall them for the match which they managed to pick a point. In fact, we were nearly winning it. Then the win against Kisumu I commend the boys for the performance though it was a match we had the targetted maximum points,” he added.
Blad are 11th on the log and will be seeking to rise from the bottom early next year.
