Kenya 7s will play in the 2019/20 world 7s Series after avoiding relegation thanks to Japan’s fall to Scotland in final pool stage clash.
Japan needed a win over Scotland to keep the hope of catching up with Kenya 7s. Their drop to the challenge trophy means they can only collect 33 points, if they go on and with the trophy. As it stands only Wales can finish above Kenya 7s if they collect the challenge trophy.
For Kenya 7s the least they will attain in the competition is 10 points meaning they can get 37 points or more and the lowest they can finish in position 14.
The fight is now between Wales and Japan who have dropped to the challenge trophy. Wales will be keen to finish above Japan to be safe.
Kenya 7s qualified for the quarters for the first time this season after winning against Wales. The side had earlier lost to South Africa while their first match ended in a draw.
Following the final action in Pool D, Kenya's core status for 2020 is secure.
Japan will play England tomorrow morning in the Challenge Trophy quarter-finals. If they lose the match they will be relegated from the series.
