Kisumu RFC have made a return to Kenya Cup after edging Catholic Monks 14-11 in the Championship semis staged at CUEA Grounds on Saturday.
Lead by former Western Bulls head coach Howard Okwemba Kisumu will travel to Kakamega town to tackle Bulls who beat USIU 22-16 in the clash played at USIU Grounds.
Kisumu needed a sudden death penalty by Lenny Obiero to return to Kenya Cup. The teams ended the normal 80 minutes tied at 11-11. The hosts’ Monks managed just a drop goal in the opening half while Kisumu scored a try through Obiero and penalty by Walter Mikanga.
In the closing half, Monks scored a try and a penalty as Mikanga added a penalty to send the match to extras time. Kisumu entry means there will be three teams from the Western Region in the top tier.
