Mwamba RFC will tackle Kabras in the Kenya Cup semis after a narrow 18-17 win over Nakuru in the quarters staged at Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday.
Kevin Wambua charges return to the semi-finals for the first time since the 2013 season and they will face Kabras in Kakamega.
Mwamba were the first on the scoresheet, splitting the posts after a penalty. Inside centre Kelvin Omiyo crossed over the line to score Nakuru’s first try at the other end. Geoffrey Ominde added the extras for a 7-3 scoreline.
Collins Injera restored Mwamba’s lead after unconverted try but it was the hosts who went to the break leading after registering an unconverted try.
In the final half, Nakuru added an unconverted try before Injera trimmed the gap to two points after earning his side a converted try. Mwamba scored a late penalty and held on to win the clash by just a point.
