Laiser Hill, St Peters among unbeaten sides after National 7s group stages

National 7s defending Champions Laiser Hill, St Peters Mumias, Upper Hill and Vihiga finished their Pool stages games unbeaten after picking three straight wins.

Laiser Hill beat Muvuti 19-0 to top Pool A with Javan Madigu bagging a converted try to start them off. The side added two tries and converted one for the win that saw them remain unbeaten.

St Peter’s also finished top of the pool B after a 21-5 win over Muhuri Muchiri. Eric Ogutu opened the scores for the Western Region Champions and added the extras.

William Mwanji’s try was then converted by Ogutu to send St Peters to 14-0. Muhuri pulled back through Malvin Nganga before Mwanji got his second try of the match and Ogutu’s extras ensured a 21-5 win for the Mumias based side.


Vihiga topped Pool C after beating Shimba 21-0. Maxwell Amusavi earned Vihiga first try which was converted for a 7-0. In the second half, Anthony Khaoya added the second try for Vihiga while Kevin Ligaya split the posts for a 14-0.  They would add a converted try for the win.

The Final match of the day saw Upper Hill also won their match to finish top. They got 10-7 win against Menengai High.

Earlier in the day, Chianda registered the first win in the competition beating St Marys from the Coast Region 26-12 in the final Pool A.

In Pool B Agoro Sare booked a place in the quarters after whipping Khamisi High School 34-0. 22 points in the first half and 12 in the closing half saw them pick maximum points from the clash.

Thika had to rally from behind to collect the second win of the competition. The teams went to the break with Barani leading 12-0.

An unconverted try and a penalty try saw Thika tie the scores at 12-12. In the dying minutes of the clash, Thika got an unconverted try to win 17-12 and reach the quarters

Katwanya and Kerugoya played to a 7-7 draw in their final Pool D match. After goalless draw, Bimark Solomon scored a converted try in the opening minutes of the second half while Chege equalized for Kerugoya after a converted try at the other end.
