A Lyle Asiligwa penalty was all that Kenya Harlequins needed to edge Nondies out of the playoffs with a 15-12 win at the Impala Pavillion in the second of a double header played at the ground.
With Quins already in the quarters, it was Nondies who had to win the game to stand a chance of gracing the playoffs. The first half was largely quite, plagued with a host of handling errors from both sides.
It was Quins who opened the scoring account with Peter Misango scoring from the back of a strong scrum, Lyle Asiligwa sending the conversion wide for a 5-0 lead. Nondies would then level matters moments later through Steve Odhiambo with a few minutes of the first half left to play, Onsando missing to add the extras.
Dominic Osino’s try in the final minute of the first half made all the difference as the teams headed into the break. The scrum half was fed a short pass by Misango from the base of the scrum to score close to the sticks, Asiligwa making an easy job of the resulting conversion to take scores to 12-5.
Asiligwa drilled in a three pointer six minutes into the second half to open the scoring account. It would take Nondies nearly half of an hour before they finally found a try that saw them draw level after Martin Juma successfully split the uprights for a 15-12 scoreline. Quins then were able to hold on to their lead in a tense last 10 minutes to bundle crash Nondies play off hopes.
