Kenya Lionesses finished top in Pool B in the ongoing Women’s World 7s Series qualifiers after a 20-10 win over Papua Guinea in a match played on Thursday.
Kenya have now booked a place in the Cup quarters having beaten Uganda and Hong Kong 24-0 and 36-5 respectively in the opening matches.
In the match against Papua, the two teams went to the break tied at 10-10. It was after Papua Guinea came from behind twice to tie the scores.
At the second minute, Sheilla Chajira slipped past Papua’s defence to score the opening try for Kenya while their opponents responded with a try from Joana Lagona.
Diana Awino restored Kenya’s lead before Debbie Kaore responded with a try for Papua.
In the closing half, Kenya scored 10 points through Janet Musindalo Okelo who crossed over twice at the eighth and 13th minute to open a 10 point gap.
Kenya have collected nine points from the matches and have a goal difference of 65.
