USIU have moved a point behind Western Bulls with a game in hand after a narrow 8-3 win over Catholic Monks at CUEA Grounds.
Fred Okoth scored an unconverted try to put his side to a 5-3 lead. Eliud Mulakoli added a penalty in the final minutes to ensure four points for his side from the clash. Their hopes of booking a direct semi-final slot are alive as they still have two games to play.
In Kakamega, Kisumu RFC scored a late penalty to sneak away with a 9-8 win from the Bull Ring against Western Bulls. They win has increased their chances of finishing fourth on the log.
Bulls started off well to lead 8-6 at the break, thanks to a try and penalty while Kisumu had converted two penalties. Kisumu coach Howard Okwemba would leave the venue he once called home with four points after a late winner from a penalty.
Despite the losses, Monks and Western Bulls will stay this week.
