Oriwo plotting to take Nyanza region rugby by storm

Oriwo Boys High school may not be a common name to many when discussing matters concerning school rugby in Nyanza, but now the Nyanza region 15s semi-finalists under the tutorship of Oyamo Fredrick are slowly becoming a force to reckon.

Oriwo bowed out of the regional games after going down 10-0 to Maseno High school, an impressive performance for a team that is just four years since its formation.

Enroute to the semifinals, Oriwo fell 10-0 to St. Mary’s Yala before edging out Cardinal Otunga 08-12 to book a place in the semis against Maseno.

According to the coach, the tournament was a chance for his team to improve as he shifts focus to the 2020 season where he hopes for better tidings from his team.

“I had a strong team in Oriwo boys from Homabay county, a team that everybody could tell was in a position to be in the Nationals in Mombasa even though my ambitions were thwarted by Maseno in the semis, congratulations to Maseno school. We are looking forward to a new season 2020 with the benefit of continuity with our training.B y having such continuity it gives my team a real opportunity to evolve and improve on the brand of Rugby developed and the errors for the past season.” Mr. Oyamo spoke to Scrummage in an interview.

The sky seems to be the limit for an optimistic Oyamo who said since it was the first time his boys were having a taste of the semi-finals, they will certainly use the experience gained to better their results next year.

“This offseason we hope to spend on analyzing our structures and our systems already put in place and am optimistic will come back next year strong more than the past years. Oriwo boys just started Rugby in 2015 and its been growing having in mind all the stages we had to pass. I have a team of focused boys who are always ready to play their hearts out. This year’s Regional games were their first higher experience and we opt not to go for less come next year, they executed well and am hopeful of better results next year.”
