Maseno School are the Lake Region 15s Champions after beating holders St Mary’s Yala in a closely contested final staged at Homabay School on Wednesday 20 March.
The side will now make a return to National School Games after missing last year’s 15s edition after being eliminated by a toss of a coin, this was after a 10-10 tie in 2018 finals. The 2019 National games will be held in the Coast Region from April 5 to April 14.
To win the match, Rachel Wangila produced a man of the match and guided his side past resilient Yala. Wangila crossed the whitewash for their lone try of the match before rising to converted the try for seven points. He later returned to the scoresheet with three points after a penalty.
Their rivals only managed five points in the clash. Speaking after the victory, Maseno School head coach Paul Nyamita stated the success was as a result of hard work and resilience.
“Discipline and hard work and resilient worked for us. Last year we lost via a coin toss but we moved on and kept the focus, ” Nyamita told Scrummage.
