Reports from Kenya Cup side Homeboyz RFC indicate that some of the senior players have downed their tools.
A source told Scrummage that a number of senior players have been absent from training in the past five days and added that they have opted to stay away since their salaries have been slashed.
Their squad released on Friday night to play Mwamba saw the coach Simon Odongo call in the likes of Elfas Etemesi, Abel Matanda, skipper Emmanuel Mavala, Jan Remke, Bob Muhati, Emmanuel Silungi, and Paul Akatch.
Those who featured in the last two matches and were missing in the squad that played Mwamba include Polycarp Odhiambo, Kelly Akenga, Thomas Okidia, Israel Soi, Leonard Mugaisi, Steve Otieno, Max Kangeri among others.
“Most of Homeboyz senior players ain’t playing this weekend because they are on strike,” a source close to the club revealed to Scrummage.
When asked about the situation in the camp, coach Odongo did not confirm or deny that there was a strike but he insisted that he picked the best players who turned up for training.
“We trust the players we field. These are the players that turned up for training and anytime I pick the strongest squad. They played their hearts out and I cannot fault them, Odongo said after the match against Mwamba where they lost 46-19.
“Homeboyz started in 2009 with players that were nobodies. Now we have many players in the National team. We have 185 players and I always pick the best, he added.
Homeboyz have 27 points this season.
