Determined Nakuru overcome Impala

Nakuru RFC rallied from behind to beat Impala 20-15 in a dramatic match in the second match of a doubleheader at the Impala grounds.

Nakuru went ahead in the fifth minute through a Duncan Abuyeka penalty before Xavier Bett blew up a chance to pull his team level on the other end.

Wanyore would suffer a blow to their brilliant start after Cassius Omollo was sent to the sinners’ chair for a dangerous tackle.

Impala would score the first try of the game through Anthony Odhiambo who touched down from an overlap, Bett missing the conversion for a 5-3 lead.

Wanyore would start the second half fired up and they would need only ten minutes for Crispin Onyango to slice through the Impala defence to score Nakuru’s first of the game, Ominde getting right the resulting conversion for a 10-5 lead.

Pressure in Nakuru’s five would lead to a charge down after Charles Odongo tried to clear their lines. Kerre going over for Impala to draw level. Scores now 10-10.

Gramwel Bunyasi would be sent to the sinners’  chair for a high tackle.

Drama would unfold as Nakuru would thretent to walk out of the match after a controversial red card to their captain Edwins Makori, but later returning to the pitch after the red cardcwas overturned for a yellow card. Wanyore continuing the game with two men in the sin bin.

Bunyasi would then mark his return into action with a blistering run, beating two defenders on his way to dot down in the corner. Ominde missing to add the extras for a 15-10 lead.

Nakuru would shift ear with their key men back to the pitch to produce good play leading to a try at the corner. Scores now 20-10.

Bill Omondi would then score for Impala, Ongo missing the conversion to cut the deficit to just five points. Nakuru would then hold on for the win.
