Kenya Harlequins assistant coach Benjamin Ayimba is pleased with his team’s 23-20 win over champions Homeboyz in the Enterprise cup pre quarter match at the Jamhuri grounds on Saturday 9.
Quins won through a late penalty from Jasper Ochen to bundle out the champions, but the Ayimba is pleased with his charges for the win, saying in knock out competitions all you have to do is win.
The match lived up to the expectations of many as it remained a tight contest throughout. Homeboyz would go into the break with a two point lead, a 17-15 scoreline that Quins would overturn to win the game.
“Our emphasis was primarily on getting this win. It doesn’t matter how ugly it was. In the first half we let in very easy points. In the second we were solid, had possession and carried it well and then winning by that kick, knock out rugby you just want to win.” Ayimba said after the match.
Quins will meet Blak Blad in the quarter finals, a repeat of a regular kenya cup encounter that saw the students snatch a 16-15 win at the Kenyatta University grounds.
