The Vancouver 7s tournament saw South Africa beat France 21-12 to win Main Cup final in a match played at the BC Place Stadium in Canada on Monday morning.
It marked South Africa’s triumph in their first final of the 2019 Series while France ended the run of 60 tournaments without being in the final – their last appearance came in 2012. Fiji beat USA 24-14 for the third spot as New Zealand got 26-19 win over England to pick the fifth position.
Despite not being in the finals, USA have maintained the top spot on the World 7s Series log with 113 points. New Zealand also remain second with 106 and Fiji have 101.
South Africa are fourth on the log with 89 points and they close the top. The top four teams at the end of the 2019 series will gain automatic qualification to Tokyo Japan Olympics.
England and Australia have occupied the fifth and sixth slots with 80 and 65 points each. With 59 and 56 points, Samoa and Argentina lie at position eight and nine. The 10th spot has Scotland.
France final appearance has earned them 19 points and it send them to 44 points, two above Spain. Spain have 35 whereas Wales have 18 points the same as Kenya who have dropped to position 14.
Japan and Chile sit at the bottom of the table.
