Japan knock Kenya out of Vancouver 7s

Kenya 7s have picked just one point from Vancouver 7s after a  22-14 loss to Japan in the 13th place semi-finals played at BC Place in Canada.

Kenya had dominated the last five meetings having won four and lost once in the previous series meetings. The last date was in Las Vegas where Kenya beat the Asians 28-15 quarter-final of the challenge trophy.

Kenya led in the match, courtesy of a try from Bush Mwale and it was converted by Johnstone Olindi to lead 7-0. Naoki Motomura replied for his side after landing a converted try.  Motomura returned to the scoresheet for a double after latching on Yoshikazu Fujita grabber kick.

In the final half, Japan added a try via Kameli Raravou Soejima to lead 17-7. Dai Ozawa crossed over for the fourth try that send them to the 13th place finals.

Debutant Shadon Munoko bagged a converted try for Kenya but it was too late. The side has bagged a point from the competition.
