WORLD SEVENS SERIES

Australia whips Kenya, sends them to Vancouver 13th place semis

Dominant Australia whipped Kenya 7s 47-7 in a Challenge trophy clash at BC Place stadium and send them to the 13 place semi-finals.

In the last 13 World 7s Series meetings, Kenya had beaten Australia once. The win was picked on 29 January when Shujaa beat Aussie 19-17 in the Challenge Trophy final in Wellington. Since then Kenya has suffered five straight defeats.

The Australians kept the ball from the kick-off and at the second minute, Simon Kennewell easily slipped past Kenyan defenders on the right and scored the opening try. A minute later, the side returned to the scoresheet through Michael Wells.

Within five minutes, Australia were 15 points up, Jeral Skelton resilience saw him beat four Kenyan defenders to score. Kenya were able to cut down the gap following a converted try by Daniel Taabu.  Dylan Pietsch handed his side a 20-7 lead after scoring at the stroke of halftime.

The Oceanians went to dominate in the final half scoring three times in the opening three minutes of the half. Pietsch, Skelton and Kennewell all returned to the scoresheet.

Skelton and Pietsch scored in closing minutes and earned a hattrick. Kenya will face Japan at 1044 PM in the 13th place semis.
