Kenya 7s started the Vancouver 7s campaign with a 36-12 loss to Fiji in a Pool B match played BC Place on Saturday 9 night.
Shujaa had won just one of the last five against matches Fiji. Their win came in Paris 7s where the East Africans picked a 22-19 win in the group stages in June 2018. The last meeting between these two sides this season was in Cape Town where Fiji won 38-7.

In the clash, Fiji started off strongly and within 18 seconds Sevuloni Mocenacagi slipped past Shujaa defence and dotted a try for a 5-0 lead. Alasio Sovita Naduva then raced over to put the side 10 points up.
Vilimoni Botitu added the extras before Naduva returned to the scoresheet for the third try for the Fijians. The side went to the break leading 17-0.
In the final half, Jerry Tuwai picked a kick from Olindi and raced on to score the fourth try of the game. Kenya responded with Johnstone Olindi who forced his way to the try line. Terio Veilawa crossed over for Fiji’s fifth minutes later.
Vincent Onyala hit back at the other end to send Kenya to 12 points and kept Kenya in the game but the Fijians would pounce on another kick off from Kenya and Mocenacagi raced over to send the scores to 36 points.
