Kenya 7s beat Japan 28-15 at Sam Boyd Stadium and booked a slot in the Las Vegas 7s Challenge trophy semis.
Kenya 7 had previously beaten Japan in 10 of the last 12 matches. As they met this weekend both sides were eyeing to reach the competition’s challenge trophy finals having surrendered the race for the main cup.

Siosifa Lisala scored Japan’s opening try that put his side on five points. Cyprian Kuto provided Kenya’s response at the other end. His try was converted for a 7-5 lead. Naoki Motomura restored Japan’s lead after overpowering Jacob Ojee, Vincent Onyala and Daniel Taabu to score.
Japan stretched the lead to eight points this time round scoring on the right corner through 35-year-old Kameli Raravou Soejima. On return from the break, Vincent Onyala stepped away from two defenders and crossed over for Kenya’s second converted try.
Bush Mwale beautiful steps saw him earn Kenya the third try while Onyala’s returned on the scoresheet for his second try that was converted for 28-15 win.
Kenya will now play Spain in the semis at 10 44 PM.
